Camping…..you either love it or you hate it. For us, we love it! I grew up in the camping life but my husband did not. My parents took us to all kinds of places in our little pop-up camper. Eventually they sold the pop-up, settled down and got a permanent lot that we enjoyed for a lot of years. It wasn’t until my parents got older, long after my brother and I grew up and moved out, that they gave up the permanent lot where we made so many memories.
It was because of this way of growing up that I knew we had to provide this for our son. So in 2014 we purchased our first used pop-up. It didn’t last long and for many reasons, the main one being that the lift cable broke and we didn’t want to fix it. So in 2015 we purchased our first used travel trailer. It was far from new and was far from in great shape. But it was ours and we loved it. We used it for one season and then it sat and again, for many reasons. In 2016 my dad fell ill with Parkinsons disease and passed away in August. That year we didn’t do any camping! 2017 came and went with again, no camping. By 2018 we were going crazy not being able to go anywhere or do anything fun so we purchased a nice newer truck and a brand new camper! Then the adventure began!!!
Well we have it and knew that we wanted to travel, but now we had to decide just where to go with it. I thought this was going to be an easy thing to do, but trust me, it’s not! There’s so many places and so much to see. So we started with some local places. Our first trip was to Clifty Falls State Park in Madison, Indiana. This is one of our favorite places to visit since it has lots of hiking. That’s where our real camping adventure began. From there we visited a couple other local campgrounds several times before the season was over. So far of the local places we have gone, Charlestown State Park is our absolute favorite. Here’s the lot we almost always reserve:
Yes, it’s a BIG lot!!!!
That brings us to now, May of 2019 and we are on our second trip of the year. For the first time since we bought our camper, we have traveled out of state! With my birthday being in March, I thought there was no better time to head south and get out of the cold Southern Indiana weather. After all, who wants to turn 40 and not have a blow out for it?!?! So we unwinterized the camper and packed up for our first trip of the season. It was worth it!!! We headed out and were Alabama bound. It was a long and hard trip down, battling major thunderstorms and detours through country roads. But we made it and set our camper up in the pouring down rain. For the next 4 nights we enjoyed some nice weather and country air.
My birthday shirt that I made!
This was a great trip with some great experiences!
As the 2019 season progresses, we have 2 more big trips planned and lots of weekend trips, like the one we’re currently on, planned! Since we are a homeschooling family, our plan is visit every state in our camper with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. There’s so much to see and so many experiences for our son to have before he has to grow up and join this big world.
Love and Light,
